Public Advisory: Disaster Recovery Assistance Applications Available
for Property Owners Affected by Tropical Storm Chantal

Due to the widespread damages caused by Tropical Storm Chantal, Disaster Recovery Assistance Applications have been made available to 25 affected municipalities. Residents are encouraged to obtain application forms from their local town council office or by calling Fire and Emergency Services - Newfoundland and Labrador (FES-NL) at 1-888-395-5611. It is important that the applications be read thoroughly and filled out with as much detail as possible.

Fire and Emergency Services - Newfoundland and Labrador, and officials with the Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, will be on the ground in the two hardest hit areas to assist individuals with the completion of applications at the following locations:

Today, Tuesday, August 7 � Town of Placentia, town council office (12 p.m. - 8 p.m.)

Wednesday, August 8 � Town of Bay Roberts, Fire Hall (12 p.m. � 8 p.m.)

Persons unable to attend or requiring further assistance with applications, or requiring assistance with food, clothing, shelter and other personal services, are asked to contact FES-NL at 1-888-395-5611 or e-mail nlemo@gov.nl.ca. All residents are asked to exercise patience throughout the application process, recognizing there is a large volume of affected communities and individuals.

Today, the Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, along with officials from FES-NL and engineers, will meet with Mayor Glen Littlejohn of Bay Roberts. The minister will also meet with council officials from Placentia this evening.

Public information sessions will be organized in the near future and an announcement on locations and times will be forthcoming.
