Town of Appleton to Benefit from Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador
Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund

The Town of Appleton will upgrade its municipal water storage tank thanks to the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).

The $85,266 project is funded through an investment of $28,422 from Canadas New Government and $40,075 from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Town of Appleton will fund the balance of $16,769.

"Canadas New Government is working with its partners to get things done for the people of Appleton," said the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). "Our investment of over $28,000 will help mean safer water for the people of this community. We are proud to invest in this worthwhile infrastructure improvement."

The town will sandblast the tank and apply two coats of paint to its interior and exterior to improve its safety and reliability.

"This investment will secure municipal infrastructure and water services for the Town of Appleton," stated the Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. "It is important to have reliable equipment in place to support access to safe water, and the upgrades to the water storage tank will improve reliability for residents in the community."

The $84 million, Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador MRIF Agreement is cost-shared with municipalities and administered jointly by the Department of Municipal Affairs on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and ACOA, on behalf of Infrastructure Canada. Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador, acting on behalf of communities, helps set the strategic direction of the agreement and identify priorities under the capacity-building component of the agreement.
