New-Wes-Valley to Benefit from Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador
Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund

The Town of New-Wes-Valley will upgrade its municipal pumphouse thanks to the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).

"Canadas New Government is working with its partners to get things done for the people of New-Wes-Valley," said the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). "Our investment of more than $116,000 in this infrastructure upgrade will ensure a safer, cleaner and more reliable water supply for the residents of this community."

Canadas New Government is contributing $116,214 toward the $348,643 project that allows the town to upgrade the Valleyfield pumphouse, thereby improving the communitys water supply with greater control on pH and chlorine levels. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is contributing $152,241. The Town of New-Wes-Valley will fund the balance of $80,188.

"We are pleased to partner with our federal and municipal counterparts to support this infrastructure investment which will provide an efficient and safe water supply for the Town of New-Wes-Valley," stated the Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. "The upgraded pumphouse will strengthen municipal services, and represents an important investment to secure the quality of water services for the area."

With this investment by MRIF, the Town of New-Wes-Valley will upgrade equipment to allow for better operations, install a remote monitoring system, and extend the pumphouse building to accommodate these upgrades.

The Canada-NL MRIF Agreement is cost-shared with municipalities and administered jointly by the Department of Municipal Affairs on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and ACOA, on behalf of Infrastructure Canada. Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador, acting on behalf of communities, helps set the strategic direction of the agreement and identify priorities under the capacity-building component of the agreement.
