$50,000 Project to Support Roof Replacement
at Municipal Garage in Channel-Port aux Basques

To strengthen municipal services for residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Provincial Government continues to invest in municipal infrastructure that supports the daily operation of cities and towns.

Today, the Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, announced that the Provincial Government and the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques will cost-share a $50,000 project for the replacement of a metal roof on the municipal garage in that community. The funding has been made available through the 2007-08 Municipal Capital Works Program.

"Ensuring our rural communities and towns have the capability and required support to provide their residents with modern service delivery is an important issue for the Provincial Government," said Minister Byrne. "This project will ensure there is a safe and viable location for the multitude of daily repairs and storage requirements within Channel-Port aux Basques."

The Municipal Capital Works Program provides support to municipalities to develop a wide range of municipal infrastructure and is cost-shared between the province and municipalities on a variable cost-shared basis depending upon the category of infrastructure and the cost-sharing ratio assigned to the municipality. In 2007-08 the Municipal Capital Works Program is valued at $34.2 million, which includes a provincial contribution of $22.2 million.
