$120,000 Municipal Capital Works Investment Announced for
Grand Falls - Buchans and Burgeo and La Poile

Reaffirming government�s commitment to improve services in rural communities, the Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs announced funding for municipal infrastructure in the central and western regions of the province.

Through the 2007-08 Municipal Capital Works Program, $120,000 has been approved for two projects in the districts of Grand Falls - Buchans, and Burgeo and La Poile. The projects are:

  • $45,640 to cover costs of repairs, inspection and sludge disposal associated with the contour sewer system in Millertown.
  • $76,135 for road upgrades within the community of Burnt Islands.
  • "The Provincial Government is dedicated to providing strong, sustainable and smart infrastructure investments through the municipal capital works budget," said Minister Byrne. "The initiatives in Millertown and Burnt Islands will secure infrastructure and support our efforts to strengthen urban and rural communities for the safety and well-being of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador."

    The Municipal Capital Works Program is cost-shared between the province and municipalities and includes projects which will improve water and sewer, roads, recreation and fire equipment infrastructure. In 2007-08, the $34.2 million Municipal Capital Works Program will include an overall provincial contribution of $22.2 million.
