$215,200 in Road Upgrades Planned for Sandringham

An investment of $215,200 in the Town of Sandringham for road upgrades supports the Provincial Government plan to strengthen services for urban and rural communities in Newfoundland and Labrador. The funding supports improvements to municipal infrastructure and will secure road conditions for residents and visitors to the area. The funding was made available through the 2007-08 Municipal Capital Works Program.

"Sustainable infrastructure is the foundation of strong and vibrant communities," said the Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs. "Municipal capital works projects are positive investments that provide for important community development and economic stimulation, and ensure the overall sustainability of our provincial municipalities."

"I congratulate the Town of Sandringham and the Department of Municipal Affairs on this valuable initiative to bring better infrastructure to the community," said Paul Oram, Member for the District of Terra Nova. "Road improvements and transportation infrastructure are essential for rural communities to better serve the people and businesses in their region."

The 2007-08 Municipal Capital Works Program valued at $34.2 million is cost-shared between the province and municipalities. The provincial contribution of $22 million allocated in Budget 2007 supports projects that improve water and sewer, roads, recreation and fire equipment infrastructure.
