Lift Station Repairs to Strengthen Sewer System in Hearts Delight-Islington

The Department of Municipal Affairs has approved a project which will strengthen the sewer system in the Town of Hearts Delight-Islington. The Honourable Dave Denine, Minister of Municipal Affairs, has approved the $56,255 Municipal Capital Works (MCW) project as part of the Provincial Governments commitment to invest in infrastructure that lays a strong foundation for rural and regional economic growth and stimulates job growth throughout the province.

"One of the key elements for building strong, sustainable rural and regional economies are infrastructure projects that address aging systems throughout the province," said Minister Denine. "The lift station repairs in Hearts Delight-Islington will improve the operating system and secure services for residents."

"This project will bring these critical lift stations up to current operating standards and maximize safe and reliable service for the residents of Hearts Delight-Inslington," said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, MHA for the District of Trinity-Bay de Verde. "I commend my colleague, Minister Denine, on his approval of this very important project for the over 700 residents of this municipality."

The 2007-08 Municipal Capital Works Program supports cost-shared projects with municipalities to enhance fire, road, recreation, and water and sewer infrastructure in municipalities around the province. The 2007-08 MCW program is valued at $34.2 million, of which 93 per cent of the investment supports smaller municipalities.
