Public Advisory: Warning Issued Concerning Use of Flood-Damaged Appliances

Fred Hollett, Fire Commissioner and Director of Fire and Emergency Services - Newfoundland and Labrador, has issued a warning concerning the use of appliances which may have been damaged by flooding during tropical storm Chantal.

Due to health and safety concerns, it is strongly encouraged that appliances which were submerged in water should not be used unless inspected by a certified official. Appliances may have become corroded or contaminated as a result of water damage. As a result of this damage, units may be susceptible to improper operation or pose an electrical or fire hazard. This warning also applies to hot water boilers, furnaces, and appliances, which may operate by motor or are electric in nature.

Individuals with questions concerning this issue are encouraged to call Fire and Emergency Services - Newfoundland and Labrador at 1-888-395-5611.
