Municipal Affairs April 10, 2007 Bonavista North to Receive $410,525 to Improve Roads
The Department of Municipal Affairs today announced an investment of $410,525 in support of road upgrades in New Wes Valley in the District of Bonavista North. The funding was made available through the 2007-08 Municipal Capital Works Program valued at $34.2 million. "This infrastructure initiative will secure road conditions in Bonavista North through the upgrading and paving of South West Island Road and Newtown Road. The work will help address wear and tear and deteriorating road conditions and secure roads for residents and visitors to the area," stated the Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs.
"I am very pleased with the monies allocated under this joint funding
initiative for road improvements within the district," said Harry
Harding, MHA for Bonavista North. "These upgrades will allow for a more
pleasurable driving experience for our residents, as well as for
visitors to our communities during the approaching tourism season."
The Municipal Capital Works Program provides support to
municipalities to develop a wide range of municipal infrastructure and
is cost-shared between the province and municipalities. In 2007-08 the
Municipal Capital Works Program is valued at $34.2 million, which
includes a provincial contribution of $22.2 million.
