Supplier Development Session Scheduled for Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Businesses in Labrador wishing to provide goods and services to government are invited to attend a supplier development information session. How to Do Business with the Public Sector will be held at the E. J. Broomfield Memorial Arena, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, on June 25 from 8:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

"This is part of our continuing series of presentations around the province to explain to businesses how they can approach government to develop new public sector markets," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. "This session will allow businesses to meet with representatives of the provincial and federal governments and learn about their purchasing requirements. If your business is able to provide goods or services to either level of government, or other public sector entities such as hospitals and post-secondary institutions, you should attend this event."

In Budget 2007, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador allocated more than $70 million to stimulate business growth, create jobs, and strengthen local economies through initiatives such as this.

The session is free. To register or enquire, call Max Mullins or Reg Bowers, 709-896-2400. This event is being delivered in conjunction with Expo Labrador 2007 and in partnership with the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, Newfoundland and Labrador Division.

"This is a great opportunity for the local business community to learn about purchasing processes within the public sector," said Bill Stirling, vice president, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, Newfoundland and Labrador Division. "Our organization also has a number of programs and services to assist businesses that are interested in exploring opportunities within new markets."

The Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development offers a number of programs and services to help businesses start or expand. These include financial support and counseling to help companies profit from business opportunities, including exporting and the supply of goods and services. In addition to supplier development sessions, the department offers a Business Retention and Expansion Program; a Commercialization Program; a Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Fund; a Business Networks Program; and a Business and Market Development Program.
