Newfoundland and Labrador Companies to Participate in Oil Sands Forum

A delegation of 18 Newfoundland and Labrador companies is heading to Edmonton, Alberta, for the National Buyer/Seller Forum scheduled for March 12 15. The event will showcase oil sands development procurement opportunities to more than 800 companies from the metalworking, engineering and energy industries across Canada.

"Newfoundland and Labrador is well-positioned to tap into the Alberta market. We have tremendous petroleum-related industrial capacity in fabrication and construction, quality assurance and control, and environmental consulting and engineering," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. "Our skilled workforce and our experienced and innovative companies can help Alberta companies meet their demands. We are confident the Buyer/Seller Forum will open many doors for our companies and create jobs here in Newfoundland and Labrador."

The National Buyer/Seller Forum is a joint industry/government supply chain development initiative that provides a venue for oil sands players, manufacturers and suppliers to meet and find solutions to the ever-increasing demands. This is the first year this forum has extended an invitation to a national audience, providing Newfoundland and Labrador companies the opportunity to meet with Alberta buyers to develop alliances to do business around the world.

"We know Alberta will be a huge market for our company," said Ivan Butler, President of Metal World Inc., who is attending the Forum. "On previous visits to Alberta, we met with key companies and weve secured work there. Were looking forward to going to the Buyer/Seller Forum because we think there is a lot more potential out there for our company, and for other Newfoundland and Labrador companies."

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and a delegation of companies visited Alberta in January, as part of a mission organized by the Council of Atlantic Premiers to link companies from the Atlantic region to business opportunities in that province.
