Province Lowers Fees for Provincial Immigration Nominee Program

The Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment is making the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) more attractive to prospective immigrants. The PNP application fee for the entrepreneur and partner category and the skilled worker category are reduced from $2,000 to $1,000 for business applicants and from $1,000 to $150 for workers.

"The fee reduction encourages more entrepreneurs and skilled individuals to apply under the Provincial Nominee Program," said the Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment. "These changes will significantly lower economic barriers for prospective immigrants to Newfoundland and Labrador. This, in turn, makes a positive contribution to the social, economic and cultural growth of our communities."

This initiative builds on the Provincial Governments commitment to enhance measures that promote Newfoundland and Labrador as a desirable destination in which to invest, work and raise a family. Since April, the Provincial Government has nominated 40 individuals and their families. As a result, a total of 96 immigrants are making their new home here in the province, with 65 per cent choosing communities outside of the St. Johns metropolitan area.

Under an agreement with the Government of Canada, immigrants can be nominated by the Provincial Government in support of the economic and social goals of the province. Individuals accepted under the PNP are given priority processing through the federal immigration system.

"This initiative supports the key goals outlined in the $6 million provincial immigration strategy," said Minister Skinner. "The enhancements to the Provincial Nominee Program are helping to attract needed business and occupational talent while building new connections within the global marketplace."

One of the key initiatives of the provincial immigration strategy has been the establishment of the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism to promote the province to prospective immigrants, implement retention measures, and enhance settlement and integration services.
