Appointments Made to
Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission Board

The Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and Minister Responsible for the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation, today announced five appointments to the Board of Directors of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC).

  • Josephine Budgell and Peggy Roche are appointed as public representatives.
  • George Kean is appointed as a worker representative.
  • Louise Ade is re-appointed as a worker representative.
  • Elizabeth Forward is appointed as an employer representative.
  • The appointments are effective for a three-year term until May 2010.

    "I am pleased to have these five exemplary individuals give of their time and energy in accepting appointment to the board of directors of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission. I am confident that they will strengthen the overall composition of the Board and enable the WHSCC to meet its mandate to workers and employers in the province,� said Minister Skinner. "I would also like to thank Bernice Buckle and express the Provincial Government�s appreciation for her service and contribution as a member of the Board of Directors."

    Biographies

    Josephine Budgell

    Ms. Budgell is a resident of Bishop�s Falls. She is retired a manager and clerk for the Town of Bishop�s Falls and a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Municipal Administrators. Ms. Budgell is vice-chair of the Board of Governors for the College of the North Atlantic.

    Peggy Roche

    Ms. Roche is a resident of Torbay. She is a retired payroll auditor with the WHSCC and past chairperson of the Northeast Avalon Joint Councils.

    George Kean

    Mr. Kean is resident of Labrador City. He is the president of the United Steel Workers, Local 5795. He is currently an alternative member on the Labour Relations Board.

    Louise Ade

    Ms. Ade is a resident of Conception Bay South. She is a postmaster with Canada Post and president of the Canadian Postmasters and Assistants Association and a vice-president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour.

    Elizabeth Forward

    Ms. Forward is a resident of Conception Bay South. She is the former chief operating officer for the Central Regional Integrated Health Authority. She currently sits on the Victoria Order of Nurses (VON) Board of Directors.
