Over 92 Per Cent of Province Re-registered for MCP

Over 470,000 individuals have re-registered and received their new MCP cards as of June 22, representing approximately 92 per cent of the population, said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Health and Community Services.

"We have witnessed a tremendous response from the public for this initiative," said Minister Wiseman. "While cooperation has been excellent, it is critical that anyone who has not submitted a re-registration form do so as soon as possible in order to receive an MCP card before July 31, 2007."

In March 2007, the Provincial Government extended the date for the expiry of old MCP cards to July 31, 2007, in order to process the high volume of forms submitted with missing or inconsistent information. All individuals who submitted such forms have been contacted by telephone or in writing for additional information.

Individuals who do not have a new MCP card by July 31, 2007, may be required to pay up front when receiving the services of a physician, to be reimbursed after the fact by MCP.

The new MCP cards contain an individuals name, gender, MCP number and birth date to provide additional security to ensure that only the person to whom the card is issued will be able to use it. In addition, the cards have an expiry date to allow the Department of Health and Community Services to periodically update the MCP database and provide an improved mechanism for accountability.

A re-registration form can be obtained by calling the local MCP office, visiting www.gov.nl.ca/mcp or by e-mail at mcpreregistration@gov.nl.ca. Further questions should be directed to MCP by calling 1-866-449-4459 on the Avalon Peninsula or 1-800-563-1557 in all other areas.
