Media Advisory: Minister to Launch New Wellness Campaign

The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Health and Community Services, will hold a news conference tomorrow (Thursday, February 22), to officially launch a new campaign to promote healthy living as part of governments commitment to the Provincial Wellness Plan. The launch will take place at the Reid Community Centre, 126 Smallwood Drive, Mount Pearl, at 2:00 p.m.

Government released the Provincial Wellness Plan in March 2006. Phase I of the plan is currently being implemented and focusses on healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco control, and injury prevention. This will be done through strengthened partnerships, public awareness, health promotion and evaluation. Phase II will consider other wellness priority areas such as mental health promotion, child and youth development, environmental health and health protection. Government invested $3.7 million in Budget 2006 to support implementation of the Provincial Wellness Plan.
