Consumer Advisory: Consumers Notified of Generator Recall

The Department of Government Services is advising that some of the 3,000 gasoline and diesel-powered generators manufactured by Outillages King Canada Inc., and which were the subject of a recent voluntary recall, have been sold in Newfoundland and Labrador hardware stores. These stores were notified of the recall and have since pulled the product from their stores.

On December 7, 2007, CSA International announced that Outillages King Canada Inc. recalled the generators because the affected models were produced with some uncertified components which do not meet the applicable CSA standards and were marked with the U.S. designation incorrectly. The uncertified components may pose a shock and/or fire hazard. As well, some generators may have circuit breakers bearing counterfeit registered trademarks belonging to CSA International.

The recall affects gasoline models KCG-950G which may be bearing a cCSAus mark with or without file number 223771, KCG-3000G, KCG-6500GE and diesel model KCG- 5000DES which may be bearing a cCSAus mark with or without file number LR 76429 or 174325. The generators cost between $160 and $1,700.

There have been no incidents or injuries reported related to the affected generators.

Owners of the subject generators are advised to stop using them immediately and should contact Outillages King Canada Inc. toll free at 1-866-444-2580 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.
