Media Advisory: Minister to Attend Securities Meetings

The Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Government Services, will attend meetings for ministers responsible for securities regulation in Gatineau, Quebec on Tuesday, June 19. The ministers will be joined by the federal Minister of Finance later in the day. The ministers will be discussing ways to harmonize and streamline regulation in Canada.

Also on the agenda are initiatives to combat securities fraud, free trade in securities, and initiatives to improve financial literacy for Canadians. In addition, the Council of Ministers of Securities Regulation will hold a meeting to discuss progress of the Passport System of Securities Regulations in Canada.

The Council of Ministers' goal is to develop a provincial/territorial framework that inspires investor confidence and supports competitiveness, innovation and growth through efficient, streamlined and cost-effective securities regulation that is simple to use for investors and other market participants.
