Premier Announces Two Senior Appointments

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced two senior appointments.

Julia Mullaley has been appointed Assistant Deputy Minister (Royalties and Benefits), Department of Natural Resources. She most recently served as Executive Director of Planning and Co-ordination with Cabinet Secretariat.

Vanessa Newhook has been appointed Executive Director of Planning and Co-ordination with Cabinet Secretariat. Most recently, Ms. Newhook served as Director, Red Tape Reduction Initiative, with the Department of Business.

"During their progressively responsible positions with the Provincial Government, these two individuals have demonstrated exemplary public service," Premier Williams said. "I wish them well in their challenging new roles, and look forward to their continued strong contributions."

Both appointments are effective November 19.

Biographical Information

Julia Mullaley

Ms. Mullaley began her career with the provincial government in 1993 with the Office of the Auditor General. In 2003 she moved to Treasury Board, where she served as the Director of Budgeting.  Since 2005, she has held the position of Executive Director, Planning and Co-ordination with Cabinet Secretariat, Executive Council. Ms. Mullaley graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (co-operative) degree from Memorial University in 1989 and obtained a Chartered Accountant professional designation in 1991.  She has served on several government committees and has been an active volunteer with many community organizations.

Vanessa Newhook

Ms. Newhook joined the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1994 as a compliance officer with the Government Purchasing Agency. Since then, she has worked in several departments including Transportation and Works, the Office of the Comptroller General, Treasury Board Secretariat, Executive Council, Department of Finance, and Office of the Auditor General. Her positions have included budget analyst; program renewal consultant; policy, planning and research analyst; and, financial management systems analyst. Since September 2005, she has worked with the Department of Business as the Director of the Red Tape Reduction Initiative. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (co-operative) and a Masters of Business Administration from Memorial University and is a Certified Management Accountant.
