Premier Williams Commends Gerry Reid for His Service
to Newfoundland and Labrador

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today commended retiring Liberal Party leader Gerry Reid for his many years of service to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador in several significant capacities.

"As an executive assistant for seven years, an MHA for 11 years, a Cabinet Minister and Leader of the Official Opposition, Gerry Reid has made a significant contribution to Newfoundland and Labrador," said Premier Williams. "The demands placed on those who serve in public offices are great. They require tremendous amounts of time, a strong commitment to others and considerable personal sacrifices."

The Premier said that individuals like Mr. Reid who have served the public with such dedication for so long, deserve the recognition and appreciation of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

"In public life, while we may be political opponents and there are times when we disagree, there is also ultimately a tremendous amount of mutual respect among those who have served as colleagues in the peoples House. On behalf of our province, our government and our caucus, I extend to Mr. Reid and his family our gratitude for his years of service and our sincere best wishes as he begins a new chapter in his life."
