Premier Pleased with Release of COF Energy Strategy The release of the Council of the Federation (COF) Energy Strategy is an important step for the country in terms of developing a shared vision of the country�s energy resources, said the Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. Premier Williams is the Chair of the COF Energy Committee and today premiers released A Shared Vision for Energy in Canada. "I am so pleased with the completion and release of the COF Energy Strategy which is the result of many months of hard work and contributions from all jurisdictions," said Premier Williams. "The strategy represents a truly national vision among provinces and territories and addresses several important issues including transmission, supply and demand, conservation, efficiency and other items of concern to Canadians. As chair of this committee, I am particularly pleased with the cooperation and input of all provinces and territories. We have spent a tremendous amount of time and effort in developing this strategy and I am very pleased with the results." The strategy included a series of energy maps that illustrate the existing inventory of the country�s energy assets and potential assets. The maps aid in illustrating the economic potential of Canada�s energy sector. "Canada has tremendous energy potential and, in the current global climate of supply and demand issues, we felt it was important to develop a comprehensive national strategy," added Premier Williams. "And when you consider the relationship between the energy sector and climate change concerns, it is especially important to ensure that we have a shared vision and approach where possible. "Proper development of our energy resources is critical for the future of this country from both an economic and environmental perspective, and this strategy will help guide our way. And for our province, energy development is critical to our long-term prosperity, so we are pleased to contribute to a national vision."
