Premier Names New President of College of the North Atlantic

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced today the appointment of Jean K. Madill as President of the College of the North Atlantic, effective September 10.

"Ms. Madill brings to the position a wealth of senior management experience at the college level in a range of diverse key areas that will serve her well in her challenging and exciting new role," said Premier Williams. "Her demonstrated leadership skills will ensure that College of the North Atlantic continues to provide students with the quality education and skills they need to meet the ever-changing demands of the workplace. We look forward to her contributions and wish her well."

As president, Ms. Madill will be located at the college�s headquarters in Stephenville.

College of the North Atlantic is one of the largest post-secondary educational and skills training centres in Atlantic Canada. The college has 17 campuses throughout the province and one in the Middle East State of Qatar. Information about the college and its programs is available at www.cna.nl.ca.

Biographical Information

Jean K. Madill most recently was Vice-President (Enrolment Management and Learner Services) with Lethbridge College in Alberta since 2004. Prior to that she served for six years as Vice-President (College Services) at Grande Prairie Regional College where she also was Acting Vice-President (Learner Support Services and Registrar).

Previously Ms. Madill held the positions of Registrar at Grande Prairie Regional College; Assistant Registrar, Mount Royal College in Calgary; Admissions Supervisor at Grant Mackewan College in Edmonton; Data Analyst Consultant at Nortel in Ottawa; Director of Student Services at the University of Saskatchewan, School of Medicine; Manager of Student Services at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Engineering.

Ms. Madill has a Masters of Education degree from the University of Alberta as well as a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto.

In 2006, she received the Exemplary Leadership Award, Chair Academy. In 2005 she received the Alberta Centennial Medal for leadership in support and services to Aboriginal learners and in 1998 she was the first Canadian recipient to receive the National Academic Advising Association's Distinguished Leadership Award.

Ms. Madill and her husband, Doug are enthusiastically looking forward to living in Newfoundland and Labrador and being active members in the regional and college communities.
