Media Advisory: Premier�s Athletic Awards Reception

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will host the third annual Premier�s Athletic Awards at 4:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 9) at the Holiday Inn, St. John�s. Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister, the Honourable Tom Hedderson, will be Master of Ceremonies.

Premier Williams will also announce the first-time winners of the Team Gushue Scholarship Award for academic and athletic excellence, established in recognition of Team Gushue�s gold medal victory at the 2006 Olympic Games.

The Premier�s Athletic Awards are designed to assist the province�s elite athletes by providing financial assistance while competing at Atlantic, national and international events. A total of 97 athletes will be recognized this year.
