Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Corner Brook Area Emulsion Blasting Agent Manufacturing Plant
Proponent: Newfoundland Hard-Rock Inc.                                                      (Reg. 1361)

The proponent will construct a new manufacturing plant to produce an emulsion blasting agent with the primary components being ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel. The site is located five kilometres west of Corner Brook on a forest access road off the Trans Canada Highway (TCH). Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the spring of 2008 and will include a pre-engineered steel building (15 metres x 18 metres), a 50 ton steel silo and a three kilometre transmission line.

The undertaking was registered on November 27, 2007; public comments are due by January 8, 2008; and the minister's decision is due on January 11, 2008.

Charlottetown Labrador Mink Farm
Proponent: NTE Northern Fur Inc.                                                                  (Reg. 1362)

The proponent proposes to construct and operate a mink farm on the north side of Route 514 near Charlottetown. The farm will include five mink sheds measuring approximately 7 metres by 107 metres. In addition, there will be two storage sheds measuring 15 metres by 15 metres. The maximum number of breeding mink is anticipated to reach 3,000. Start of construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in May 2008.

The undertaking was registered on December 4, 2007; public comments are due by January 8, 2008; and the minister's decision is due on January 18, 2008.

Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, prior to the deadline date shown.
