Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT SUBMITTED:

Long Harbour Commercial Nickel Processing Plant                                    (Reg. 1243)

Proponent: Voisey�s Bay Nickel Company Limited

The proponent has submitted the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for public and government review as required under the Environmental Protection Act. The EIS is intended to address the information requirements contained in the EIS Guidelines that were issued to the proponent on October 31, 2006 and predict and evaluate the environmental effects of the proposed undertaking. The EIS is contained in several volumes with appendices and can be viewed on the department�s Web site at www.gov.nl.ca/env/Env/EA%202001/pages/index.htm or by requesting a copy by contacting the EA office at the number listed below.

The public deadline to make comments to the minister on the EIS is Monday, December 24, 2007. The minister will decide the acceptability of the EIS not later than January 15, 2008..
