The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and
Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10
Environmental Assessment of the Environmental
Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Makkovik Sand Quarry
(Reg. 1356)
Proponent: Makkovik Inuit Community Government
The proposal is for the development of a .69 hectare
sand quarry and a 900 metre access road that will extend southeast from
the municipal solid waste disposal site within Inuit Community Lands
(as defined by the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement). The quarry
area is bounded by the Makkovik Brook to the east and north.
The undertaking was registered on October 26, 2007;
public comments are due by November 30, 2007; and the minister's
decision is due by December 10, 2007.
Point of Bay Pressure Treating Facility
(Reg. 1355)
Proponent: Mr. Derek King
The proposal is for a pressure treated lumber
production facility, specifically treating kiln dried and green lumber.
Construction will include an 18 metre-by-24 metre treatment plant and a
storage garage. The land is located in Point of Bay off Bay of Exploits
Road, approximately 15 kilometres north of Northern Arm on Route 350.
The site access road is 75 metres southeast of the town water treatment
facility.
The undertaking was registered on October 24, 2007;
public comments are due by November 30, 2007; and the minister's
decision is due by December 8, 2007.
UNDERTAKING RELEASED:
Abitibi-Consolidated Company of Canada (ACC) Five-Year
Operating Plan Forest Management Districts 10, 11, 12, and 13

The minister has released the above project from
further environmental assessment review subject to the following
conditions:
The annual operating plan submitted to government
must describe how issues raised by the public and government
agencies in this environmental assessment review will be addressed.
An annual progress report must be submitted to
the Departments of Environment and Conservation and Natural
Resources that outline the outcome of these measures.
RISK ASSESSMENT STUDY SATISFACTORY:
Grassy Point (Placentia Bay) Liquefied Natural Gas
Transshipment Terminal
Proponent: Newfoundland LNG Limited

The minister has determined the Risk Assessment Study
is satisfactory, in fulfillment of one of the conditions of release
announced on January 19, 2007.
