Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT REQUIRED:

Clarenville Chitin Plant

Proponent: Barry Group (Reg. 1312)

The minister has advised the proponent that an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) is required for this project. The EPR is necessary to address deficiencies in the registration document in an effort to determine the significance of any environmental effects. An environmental assessment committee will be appointed to provide advice to the minister on guidelines for the proponent on the preparation of the EPR and the adequacy of the EPR when it is received from the proponent. The public will be invited to provide comments on the EPR upon its submission. UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

1.) Central Newfoundland Regional Waste Management Facility

Proponent: Central Newfoundland Waste Management Committee (Reg. 1335)

2.) Crown Forest Management District 2 Five Year (2007-2011) Plan Amendment

Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Forest Service (Reg. 1345)

The minister has released the above project from further environmental assessment review, subject to the following conditions:

The proponent must follow the conditions of release for Registration 1296, Crown Distict 2 (Bonavista Peninsula) Five Year Forestry Plan (2007-2011)

The proponent must implement all commitments on general mitigation measures for Registration 1296, Crown District 2 (Bonavista Peninsula) Five Year Forestry Plan (2007-2011)

Southern Harbour Breakwater and Wharf

Proponent: Department of Fisheries and Oceans - Small Craft Harbours (Reg. 1347)

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

The Wilds Golf Complex Additions

Proponent: The Wilds at Salmonier River Inc. (Reg. 1352)

The proposal is for a 19-lot chalet development adjacent to The Wilds Golf Course bordering the Salmonier River. The course is located on Salmonier Line (Route 90), approximately 16 kilometres south of the Trans Canada Highway. The 19 lots will range from 0.2161 hectares to 0.577 hectares and the project will include a total of 580 metres of roadway.

The undertaking was registered on September 28, 2007; the deadline for public comments is November 5, 2007; and the minister's decision is due by November 12, 2007.

Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, prior to the deadline date shown.
