Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment
and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10
Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Crown District 19A (Goose Bay) Five Year Forest
Operating Plan (2008-12)
Proponent: Department of Natural Resources (Reg.
1351)
The proponent proposes timber harvesting, silviculture
and road construction in District 19A, Goose Bay area. The intent is to
harvest approximately 1,000,000 cubic metres of merchantable
softwood over the five year period. Approximately 73 kilometres of
forest access road development/reconstruction will be required from both
the Crown and Commercial operators. District 19A contains the majority
of Labrador�s closed canopy forest.
The undertaking was registered on September 24, 2007;
the deadline for public comments is November 2, 2007; and the minister's
decision is due by November 8, 2007.
Comments on submitted documents are invited from the
public, addressed in writing to the minister, prior to the deadline date
shown.
COMPONENT STUDIES:
Historic Resources Component Study
Socioeconomic Component Study
Newfoundland and Labrador Refinery Project
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corporation
(Reg. 1301)
These component studies will be acceptable subject to
the minister's approval of final documents that satisfactorily address
additional information requirements. These documents are
available on the Environmental Assessment Web site indicated below.
