Becoming an Outdoors Woman Program Planned For Labrador West

The Becoming an Outdoors Woman program is being offered in Labrador West to women 18 years of age and older who want to obtain skills and knowledge to assist them in pursuing outdoor activities. The program takes place at Cadet Camp, Albert Lake, near Wabush, from September 14 to 16.

"I am pleased to announce the Becoming an Outdoors Woman program will take place for the first time in Labrador West," said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conservation. "This program is open to women who would like to pursue outdoor activities, but feel they lack the necessary skills or knowledge."

The program provides participants with an opportunity to learn how to use a rifle, shotgun, map and compass, and global positioning system (GPS), while also acquiring skills in outdoor survival, fishing and more.

Minister Jackman encouraged all females who enjoy the outdoors and the provinces wonderful environment to consider registering for the program. "This outdoor skills training program provides an opportunity to the women of Labrador West who are interested in learning skills to assist them in pursuing outdoor activities," said the minister. "It allows women to learn and practice these new skills in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere."

Registration cost is $160 and includes two nights accommodations, seven meals, instruction and use of demonstration equipment. There are also scholarships available for single moms or students who may require financial assistance.
