Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PLAN ACCEPTED AS SATISFACTORY:

SPILL CONTINGENCY PLAN ACCEPTED AS SATISFACTORY:

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT SUBMITTED:

Newfoundland and Labrador Refinery Project                              (Reg. 1301)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corporation

The proponent has submitted the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for review which is intended to predict and evaluate the environmental impacts of the proposed refinery. The public has until September 15, 2007 to make comments on the EIS. The minister will decide the acceptability of the EIS not later than October 5, 2007, upon receiving recommendations from the EA Committee.


ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT COMPONENT STUDIES SUBMITTED:

Newfoundland and Labrador Refinery Project                                              (Reg. 1301)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Refining Corporation

The following required component studies have been submitted:

  • Freshwater and Fish Habitat;
  • Air Quality;
  • Migratory Birds;
  • Historic Resources;
  • Socio-economic; and
  • Marine Fish and Fish Habitat

Public comments must be received not later than August 31, 2007. The minister will decide the acceptability of the studies not later than Tuesday September 14, 2007, upon receiving recommendations from the EA Committee.
