Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister the Honourable Clyde Jackman has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Bide Arm Mink Farm
Proponent: Mr. Wade Reid        (Reg. 1344)

The proponent proposes to establish a mink farm off Route 433, near Bide Arm on the Northern Peninsula. The 150 acre site will have 12-16 mink sheds, a storage shed, perimeter fencing, manure storage and access road. There will be 2,000 � 2,500 initial breeding stock, with expansion in subsequent years. Construction (in stages up to 2010) is tentatively scheduled to begin late summer/early fall of 2007.

The undertaking was registered July 16, 2007; public comments are due August 22, 2007; and the minister's decision is due August 30, 2007.

Crown Forest Management District 2 Five Year (2007-2011) Plan Amendment
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Forest Service        (Reg. 1345)

The proponent intends to amend the District Two Crown Five Year Operating Plan, located in the area of the White Hills Ski Resort, seven kilometres west of the town of Clarenville. This amendment is required to provide a revised access route to this priority area (Operating Area 215). This revised access route will be an extension to Dark Hole Brook resource road, as oppose to utilizing the White Hills Ski Resort access road. In addition, the revised route will access an additional 3,000 cubic metres of harvestable timber that was not identified in the original plan.

The undertaking was registered on July 18, 2007; the deadline for public comments is August 22, 2007; and the minister's decision is due by September 1, 2007.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.

COMPONENT STUDY ACCEPTED AS SATISFACTORY:

Freshwater Component Study
Long Harbour Commercial Nickel Processing Plant
Proponent: Voisey�s Bay Nickel Company Limited         (Reg. 1243)

The minister has accepted the Freshwater Component Study for the Long Harbour Commercial Nickel Processing Plant Environmental Impact Statement contingent upon the proponent attending to supplementary information requirements, errors, and clarifications; and submitting a final text (which will be distributed, but will not go to further review).

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

1.) St. Veronica�s Salmon/Trout Hatchery
Proponent: Clear Springs Aquatics Inc.       (Reg. 1332)

2.) Glovertown Marina Development
Proponent: Glovertown Yacht Club       (Reg. 1333)
