Media Advisory: Minister Signs New Coastal Stewardship Agreements

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, will join town officials from St. Anthony and Main Brook, on Thursday, July 19, to participate in the official signing of new Coastal Stewardship Agreements.

The events get underway at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Anthony Town Hall and 3:00 p.m. in the Main Brook Town Hall.

The Coastal Stewardship Program is an initiative of the Eastern Habitat Joint Venture developed in consultation with the towns of Main Brook and St. Anthony. It is a relatively new approach to coastal habitat conservation that recognizes and encourages local responsibility for the stewardship of the provinces natural heritage. The focus of the Coastal Stewardship Program is the common eider duck, a waterfowl species that depends on coastal islands like those found in Hare Bay for nesting and brood rearing.
