Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister the Honourable Clyde Jackman has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

COMPONENT STUDY ACCEPTED AS SATISFACTORY:

Terrestrial Environment Component Study
Long Harbour Commercial Nickel Processing Plant
Proponent: Voisey�s Bay Nickel Company Limited                             (Reg.1243)

The minister has accepted the Terrestrial Environment Component Study for the Long Harbour Commercial Nickel Processing Plant Environmental Impact Statement contingent upon the proponent attending to supplementary information requirements, errors, and clarifications; and submitting a final text which will be distributed, but will not go to further review.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Marystown ATV Trail
Proponent: Mr. Daniel Slaney                                                           (Reg.1343)

This undertaking involves minor upgrades to an existing trail located off Route 20, three kilometres south of the Red Harbour turn-off. The first half kilometre extends west from Route 20 and is part of the old Burin Peninsula Highway and the remaining 4.3 kilometres extends north-northwest.

The undertaking was registered on July 4, 2007; public comments are due by August 8, 2007; and the minister's decision is due by August 18, 2007.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
