Funding Provided to Support New Position with The Provincial Government today provided funding to the Newfoundland and Labrador Lung Association for environmental projects and programs in the province. The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, today confirmed $64,000 for the creation of a new position of Director of Environmental Initiatives with the Lung Association for the 2007�08 fiscal year. "I commend the Newfoundland and Labrador Lung Association on the creation of this position as they focus on reducing greenhouse emissions and improving air quality for residents of Newfoundland and Labrador," said Minister Jackman. "As indicated in the Newfoundland and Labrador Climate Change Action Plan, my government is committed to taking action on climate change and helping to ensure a better future for our children and grandchildren." The Lung Association announced today the appointment of Greg Noel to the new position of Director of Environmental Initiatives. "With the appointment of Mr. Noel, we will be able to undertake an aggressive work plan in the area of improved air quality, with an initial focus on vehicle idling reduction strategies," said Paul Thomey, Newfoundland and Labrador Lung Association Executive Director. "Without the support of the Provincial Government, we would not have been able to undertake this very important initiative." "Congratulations to Mr. Noel in his appointment," said the minister. "I look forward to his contribution in the Newfoundland and Labrador Lung Association in promoting environmental initiatives such as climate change and air quality in the province." The Newfoundland and Labrador Lung Association was founded in 1944 and is one of the oldest health charities in Canada. The Lung Association works to improve respiratory health and fight lung disease through activities that support medical research, community education and advocacy. In addition to providing support for people living with respiratory diseases such as asthma, the Lung Association is considered to be a leader in providing educational information on both indoor and outdoor air quality. - 30 - Media contact: Biography Greg Noel Mr. Noel is originally from Carbonear and holds a Bachelor of Recreation with a minor in Business Administration from Memorial University. For the past four years, Mr. Noel has been working with the YMCA in Cambridge, Ontario, where he has undertaken volunteer training, community relations and funding proposal writing. In his new position, Mr. Noel will be responsible for the delivery of the Lung Association�s existing programs in the area of air quality.
