Crown Land Cottage Lots Available in Central Newfoundland

A public draw will take place July 4 for 34 Crown land cottage lots available in Central Newfoundland. These lots include 24 accessible by passenger vehicle and 10 remote lots. The draw takes place on Wednesday, July 4, at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Regional Lands Office, McCurdy Complex, Markham Place, in Gander. The draw will determine the applicant selection order.

"Accessible lots range in price from $5,000 to $9,600 and will be sold as outright ownership grants," said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conservation. "The full price for these lots must be paid upon signature of the grant document." Lots allocated on a Licence to Occupy require a yearly licence fee payment of $100.

The 24 accessible cottage lots are available at Pitts Pond (2), Sandy Point, Norris Arm (1), Butts Pond (1), Joes Lake (3), Stagg Pond (11), and Maccles Lake (6). The 10 remote cottage lots are available at Pitts Pond (1), Lake St. John (8), and Boatswains First Pond (1).

Applications must be received at the Central Regional Lands Office, McCurdy Complex, Markham Place, Gander on or before 4:00 p.m., Friday, June 29. Applications received after this deadline will not be eligible for the draw. A subsequent meeting to determine the actual selection of lots will take place at a later date.

An application fee of $114 is required with each application submitted. The fee will be credited towards the cost of processing successful applications and will only be refunded to applicants unsuccessful in the draw. Applicants may attend the public draw however it is not necessary. Applicants will be notified by certified mail about the lot selection meeting and the ranking of the applications in the public draw.

"We encourage all applicants to inspect lots prior to the selection meeting," said Minister Jackman. "Any lots remaining after the lot selection meeting will be offered to the public on a first come, first served basis on the next business day."
