Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Patricks Cove Mink Farm
Proponent: Mr. David McGrath                                                                      (Reg. 1338)

The proposed site of six hectares is located on Big Hill, Patricks Cove, approximately 0.5 kilometres from Route 100. The operator plans to expand from 60 to 1,000 female breeders (each female breeder has one litter of 4-5 kits on average per year). Construction will include land clearing, ATV trail upgrades, four mink sheds (30 metres by 5.5 metres), a manure pad (6 metres by 4 metres) and a cold/general storage shed (approximately 60 metres by 60 metres).

The undertaking was registered on June 11, 2007; public comments are due by July 18, 2007; and, the minister's decision is due by July 26, 2007.

Garden Hill (Port au Port Peninsula) Seismic Program
Proponent: PDI Production Inc.                                                                     (Reg. 1339)

The proponent proposes a land-based geophysical exploration program using two dimensional (2D) and possibly three dimensional (3D) seismic survey methods. The exploration is to occur at Garden Hill North and South on the western side of the Port au Port Peninsula. The 2D seismic program will consist of 12 survey lines with a total distance of approximately 115 kilometres over the Garden Hill North area. The 3D seismic program for the Garden Hill South area is to cover an area of approximately 33 kilometres square. The registration describes the project phases: land surveying and line cutting, line chaining, shot hole drilling, and seismic survey works.

The undertaking was registered on June 11, 2007; public comments are due by July 18, 2007; and, the minister's decision is due by July 26, 2007.

Grande Meadows (Frenchmans Cove) Golf Course Expansion Resubmission
Proponent: Grande Meadows Golf Course Association Inc.                              (Reg. 1340)

[The 9-hole Golf Course Expansion Resubmission has been significantly changed by the proponent from the previous submission (Reg. 1175) to attempt to address environmental concerns or for other reasons.]

The proponent proposes an expansion of the Grande Meadows Golf Course at Frenchmans Cove from 9-holes to 18-holes. The golf course is located in Frenchmans Cove Provincial Park on the Burin Peninsula and borders the Great Garnish Barasway. The proposed nine-holes will utilize three areas for the expansion, including: two holes (three hectares of land) near Route 213 via access by a bridge and reclaiming land from the barasway; two holes (2.3 hectares of land) to be reclaimed from the barasway on the southwest side and adjacent to the existing 9-hole course; and, five holes (10 hectares of land) on the northwest side and adjacent to the park campsites. The four hectares of barasway (total) to be infilled will require approximately 30,000 cubic metres of material.

The undertaking was registered on June 11, 2007; public comments are due by July 18, 2007; and, the minister's decision is due by July 26, 2007.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
