Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Shallop Cove, St. George's, Quarry Extension
Proponent: Galen Gypsum Mines Limited    (Reg. 1331)

The proponent proposes to expand their existing gravel pit by 5 hectares. The undertaking is located at Shallop Cove, St. George's, approximately 500 metres along the quarry access road off Route 461. The undertaking was registered May 14, 2007; public comments are due June 19, 2007; and the minister's decision is due June 29, 2007.

St. Veronica�s Salmon/Trout Hatchery
Proponent: Clear Springs Aquatics Inc.     (Reg. 1332)

The proponent plans to construct a salmon and trout hatchery consisting of a 61 metre by 18 metre building. The facility will produce approximately 500,000 salmon and 600,000 trout annually for supply to existing sea cage farming in Bay D�Espoir. The site is bounded by Tail Race Road to the east and Crown land to the west, south and north. The undertaking was registered May 17, 2007; public comments are due June 22, 2007; and the minister's decision is due July 1, 2007.

Glovertown Marina Development
Proponent: Glovertown Yacht Club       (Reg. 1333)

The proponent plans to construct a 134-berth marina in a cove in the southwest area of Alexander Bay in Glovertown. Construction will consist of backfilling to create a 6,039 square metre laydown area for boats using the marina and for winter storage, two breakwaters (totaling approximately 175 metres) at the mouth of the cove, significant dredging, a multipurpose clubhouse, retaining wall, concrete boat launch, floating docks, storage and repair building, electrical services and repair building, and roadwork. The undertaking was registered May 17, 2007; public comments are due June 22, 2007; and the minister's decision is due July 1, 2007.
