Environment and Conservation May 15, 2007 Workshop Focuses on Becoming an Outdoors Woman Are you interested in learning more about outdoor activities? Would you like to learn skills to participate in fishing, hunting or other forms of outdoor recreation? The Becoming an Outdoors Woman program is being offered to women 18 years of age and older at Burry Heights on the Salmonier Line May 25-27. "This outdoor skills training program is for beginners and is designed to provide women with the necessary skills and knowledge to assist them in pursuing outdoor activities," said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conservation. The program offers participants an opportunity to choose four courses from an extensive list which includes: canoeing, outdoor survival, map and compass, fly fishing, rifle, shotgun, prospecting, birding, hiking, and backpacking. Minister Jackman encourages all females who enjoy nature and want to enhance their outdoor skills to consider registering for the program. "I applaud women who participate in this program. They are opening doors and removing barriers for other women who may be reluctant to experience outdoor activities that were traditionally male-dominated," said the minister. "This program allows women to learn and practice new skills in a relaxed, supportive atmosphere." Registration cost is $160 and includes two nights accommodations, seven meals, and all course instruction. There are also scholarships available for single moms or students who may require financial assistance.
