Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conversation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Wabush Region Scrap Metal/Solid Waste Storage Facility                                     (Reg. 1320)
Proponent: Mobile 1 Press Metal Limited.

The proposal includes the construction and operation of a scrap metal/solid waste storage facility located adjacent to the Trans Labrador Highway (TLH) near the communities of Wabush and Labrador City. The two acre fenced site will be located 11.5 kilometres from the TLH turnoff and 100 metres from the highway. A 2400 ft2 building will be constructed, which will contain an oily water separator. Solid waste, car wrecks, fridges, stoves etc., will be stored on site. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in June 2007. The undertaking was registered on April 19, 2007; public comments are due by May 30, 2007; and the minister's decision is due by June 3, 2007.
