Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Comfort Cove Mink Farm                                                                       (Reg. 1319)
Proponent: Mr. John Head

The proposal is to develop a mink farm located off Route 343, the road to Comfort Cove-Newstead. The land is adjacent to Indian Head and approximately 1.5 kilometres south of Indian Cove Neck Provincial Park. The operation will involve 10 000 female breeder animals. Construction will include 12-16 mink sheds, 400-600 feet long and 22 feet wide, one storage shed, 1,200-1,500 square feet, perimeter fencing, and a temporary manure storage area. The project is tentatively scheduled to begin in May, 2007. The undertaking was registered on April 11, 2007; public comments are due by May 16, 2007; and the minister's decision is due by May 25, 2007.

COMPONENT STUDY ACCEPTED AS SATISFACTORY:

Socio-economic Component Study
Long Harbour Commercial Nickel Processing Plant                                  (Reg. 1243)
Proponent: Voisey�s Bay Nickel Company Limited

The minister has accepted the Socio-economic Component Study for the Long Harbour Commercial Nickel Processing Plant Environmental Impact Statement.
