Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Conservation Minister Clyde Jackman has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

New-Wes Valley to Centreville Snowmobile Trail                                                         (Reg. 1315)
Proponent: Kittiwake Snowmobile Association

The proponent plans to develop a primary snowmobile trail with starting points at Highway 320 from New-Wes Valley, the Greenspond Road intersection and Centreville. The trail will include the existing old Bonavista North Highway connecting New-Wes Valley to Centreville, with side woods roads that access the Greenspond Road intersection, Ten Mile Pond, Indian Bay Pond, First Pond, Four Mile Pond and into the existing Kittiwake Snowmobile Association Trail. Construction will include minimal brush cutting along the sides of the existing roads and wash-out repair to ensure safety. The undertaking was registered on February 23, 2007; the deadline for public comments is April 3, 2007; and the Minister's decision is due by April 09, 2007.

Crown Forest Management District 17 and 18 Five-year Plan Amendment
Proponent: Department of Natural Resources                                                              (Reg. 1316)

The proponent intends to amend the District 17 and 18 Crown 5 Year Operating Plans, located on the Great Northern Peninsula. The proposal includes construction of a number of primary roads throughout the 2 districts. The plan is to develop road infrastructure this year in preparation for the 2008 harvest season. The amendment also includes a proposed domestic harvest block near St. Anthony. The undertaking was registered on February 23, 2007; the deadline for public comments is April 3, 2007; and the Minister's decision is due by April 09, 2007.

Upper Terra Nova Fishway Temporary Construction Road                                            (Reg. 1317)
Proponent: Fisheries and Oceans Canada

DFO is planning to rehabilitate the fishway structure on the upper Terra Nova River and in order to facilitate the project the proponent is planning a 5.5 kilometre temporary construction access road from Route 301 to the site. The intersection will occur at Route 301 approximately 1.5 kilometres from the town of Terra Nova. The proposed road will be an extension of the existing 800 metre access road to the sand borrow pit at this location. The undertaking was registered on February 23, 2007; the deadline for public comments is April 3, 2007; and the Minister's decision is due by April 09, 2007.
