Special Ballot Voting in the
Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans General Election

The general election in the electoral district of Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans will take place on November 6, 2007. According to the Elections Act, 1991, "where a candidate dies after the close of nominations and before the closing of polls on polling day, the returning officer shall, with the approval of the Chief Electoral Officer, cancel notice of the poll and fix another day for the nomination of candidates". This means that a new electoral process must take place. The passing of Dr. Gerry Tobin, the Liberal candidate, means that the Liberals and the other political parties are given the option to nominate new candidates. Therefore, the Special Ballots that were received for the October 9, 2007 Provincial General Election in that district will not be counted.

People who wish to cast their vote by Special Ballot must apply again. To apply for a Special Ballot, you may contact the Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans Returning Officer, Georgina Barnes, at 489-0223 or 489-0796. You may also contact the Chief Electoral Office toll-free at 1-877-729-7987. Additionally, Special Ballot applications may be downloaded from the Elections Newfoundland and Labrador Web site: //www.gov.nl.ca/elections.
