The media should be advised that when the polls close at 8:00 p.m. today (Tuesday, October 9, 2007), the results of the Provincial General Election may be obtained from the Chief Electoral Office. In total, there are 1,628 polls which include 1,483 Regular Polls, 99 Advance Polls, and 46 Special Ballot Polls. It should be noted that the Bonavista South and Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans districts are excluded from this count.

The first results of the night are immediately reported by the returning officers and the results thereafter are reported in groups of five polls. This information will be made available to the media as it is received. Please make arrangements for access to a direct phone line by calling 709-729-0712.

Additionally, election results will be available live on the Elections Newfoundland and Labrador Web site ( www.gov.nl.ca/elections ). A room will also be provided at the Chief Electoral Office for media representatives who wish to be present as the results are received.
