Media Advisory: Minister to Address Institute and Present National Literacy Award

The Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education, will address participants at the opening ceremonies of the professional development institute, Reading the Landscape: Excellence in Adult Literacy Practice, hosted by Literacy Newfoundland and Labrador.

The official opening begins at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, at the Comfort Inn Airport in St. John�s. Following the address, Minister Burke, on behalf of the Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will present the 2007 Council of the Federation (COF) Literacy Award.

The award recognizes the excellence of learners, educators, volunteers, businesses and other organizations that make a significant contribution to literacy. The 2007 award recipient is Stella Burry Community Services.
