Minister Announces
Closure Dates for Labrador Shipping Season
Closure dates for the 2006 Labrador
shipping season were announced today.
The Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Transportation and Works said,
Another successful shipping season for Labrador is nearing completion
and Im happy to say government continues to provide an efficient and
reliable service.
Shippers are advised that a deadline of 4:30 p.m., November 11, has been
set to accept freight leaving Happy Valley-Goose Bay, headed for coastal
Labrador and Lewisporte.
Freight intended for coastal Labrador communities originating in
Lewisporte and Cartwright will be accepted up until 4:30 p.m., November
14.
Any freight - from residents, suppliers and local businesses - delivered
to the terminal ports after these dates will not be accepted.
In addition, the Sir Robert Bond started operating in freight mode
yesterday. Departure times and frequency will be determined by the
amount of freight shipped.
Government is committed to ensure all necessary freight is in the hands
of the people who rely on it, before winter and unpredictable weather
sets in, said Minister Hickey. Consistent delivery of freight is
imperative for the general public and local economies.
