NLIS 4 June 2, 2006 (Transportation and Works) Labrador Marine Service shipping schedule announced Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced the shipping dates for Labrador Marine Service vessels and the awarding of the freight service contract for northern Labrador communities. "The public, the business community and the economy depends on a reliable Labrador Marine Service," said Minister Taylor. "This service is an integral component of the province�s overall marine infrastructure and we anticipate another successful season." Freight destined for Labrador will be accepted at all locations beginning on June 5. The 2006 schedule for the Labrador Marine Service is as follows: The weekly schedule can be found at: //www.gov.nl.ca/FerryServices/schedules.stm. In Budget 2006, Government made substantial investments in marine infrastructure, including $2.8 million for refits to the MV Sir Robert Bond and the MV Northern Ranger. "Government will continue to invest strategically in marine infrastructure, including vessels that service Labrador, for the betterment of the province," added Minister Taylor. In addition, Minister Taylor announced that government has signed a four-year contract with the Woodward Group of Companies to operate the freight vessel Astron in Cartwright and various north coast communities. As part of the agreement, government has the option to extend the contract for an additional year. The Astron will replace the Trans Gulf, which had serviced the area for the past three years.
