Premier saddened at passing of former MHA

Premier Danny Williams today expressed his condolences to the family and friends of former Member of the House of Assembly Rick Woodford after his tragic passing this weekend.

"Mr. Woodford was a dedicated servant to his province and a devoted father and friend, and on behalf of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians I extend sincere and heartfelt condolences," said Premier Williams. "From his endeavours in private life to his time as a member of the House of Assembly, he demonstrated his commitment to the province he loved and his contributions will never be forgotten."

Mr. Woodford was first elected to the House of Assembly in 1985. He served in many capacities throughout his time in public, including Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation and Minister of Rural, Agricultural and Northern Development.

"I will always remember Mr. Woodfords dedication to the people of Humber Valley and his passionate debates in the House of Assembly," added Premier Williams. "More than anything, Mr. Woodford will be remembered for his warm and compassionate demeanor, both personally and professionally. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Woodford and his partner during this extremely difficult period."
