NLIS 4 February 20, 2006 (Transportation and Works) Better roads ahead in the Ferryland region Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced road projects for the Ferryland area valued at $2.28 million under the Provincial Roads Improvement Program. "This is the earliest, in recent memory, that the department has received budget approval for this program," said Minister Taylor. "It will allow projects to go to tender and construction to begin much earlier in the season. Therefore, communities such as the ones in the Ferryland area will benefit." The road improvements planned for the Ferryland area include: Minister Loyola Sullivan, MHA for Ferryland, said: "I am very pleased with the allocation of funds for the district of Ferryland this year. The funding will go a long way in improving our current transportation system, creating a safe and reliable roads network. It will also provide much needed employment and increase the economic situation in the area." A total of $60 million has been pre-committed in the 2006-07 budget for the Provincial Roads Improvement Program, which includes $11.6 million carried over from the previous construction season. The Provincial Roads Improvement Program has doubled in value from $30 million in 2004-05 to $60 million in 2006-07.
