NLIS 1 February 17, 2006 (Transportation and Works) Road improvements announced for the district Cape St. Francis Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced road improvements for the district of Cape St. Francis valued at $1.84 million under the 2006-07 Provincial Roads Improvement Program. "This government recognizes the importance of continued upgrades to our transportation system," said Minister Taylor. "Road improvements provide a safer, more comfortable traveling experience for road users in addition to much-needed employment." The road work and bridge improvements for Cape St. Francis district includes: Minister Jack Byrne, MHA, said: "I am quite pleased with funding allocated for my district this year. It is certainly the largest amount to date and will go a long way to improving the road infrastructure in the area and helping provide a safe roads network for residents and the traveling public." A total of $60 million has been pre-committed in the 2006-07 budget for the Provincial Roads Improvement Program - this includes $48.4 million in new money and $11.6 million carried over from the 2005-06 construction season. The Provincial Roads Improvement Program has doubled in value from $30 million in 2004-05 to $60 million in 2006-07. This is the earliest the department has received budget approval in decades, which allows the tendering and construction processes to begin much sooner.
