Twillingate-Fogo to get better roads

Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced $1 million for road enhancements in Twillingate-Fogo under the 2006-2007 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

"Government is pleased to be able to make this major announcement that will contribute to the further economic development of the region and the safety of the traveling public," said Minister Taylor.

"And, improved roads make it easier for motorists to access everything the region has to offer."

A section of Route 334 at Joe Batts Arm will be pulverized and paved.

Government has pre-committed $60 million in the 2006-2007 budget for the Provincial Roads Improvement Program, which includes $48.4 million in new money and $11.6 million carried over from the 2005-2006 construction season.

The Provincial Roads Improvement Program has doubled in value from $30 million in 2004-05 to $60 million in 2006-07.

This is the earliest the department has received budget approval in decades which allows the tendering and construction processes to begin much sooner.
