Improved roads for Burin-Placentia West

Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works, today announced road and bridge work totaling over $2.14 million in Burin-Placentia West. The projects are funded under the 2006-07 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

"These road and bridge improvements will make driving in these communities safer and more enjoyable for residents, the business community and tourists," said Minister Taylor.

"This is another example of governments commitment to building a better transportation infrastructure throughout the province."

The work includes:

  • Continue to pave the remainder of Route 215, Petite Forte Road;
  • Resurface section of Route 210-21 from the intersection of Route 210 towards Rushoon;
  • Replace the Little Salmonier River Bridge;
  • Replace the Jean de Baie Bridge;
  • Upgrade walkways throughout the community of South East Bight;
  • Replace large culvert on Route 210, near Red Harbour;
  • Rehabilitate Rushoon River Bridge.
  • Clyde Jackman, MHA for Burin-Placentia West, says the announcement is indicative of governments commitment to road infrastructure throughout the province.

    "This significant investment in my district is certainly welcomed and is beneficial to all who use the roads in our area," said Mr. Jackman.

    As part of the Provincial Roads Improvement Program, government has pre-committed $60 million in the 2006-07 budget, which includes $48.4 million in new money and $11.6 million carried over from the previous construction season.
